After 16 days in Peoria spent visiting with friends
and provisioning the boat, we cast off and headed up the Illinois River to LaSalle-Peru. The day couldn't have been better: sunshine, low humidity, and calm waters.
Once we arrived at South Shore Boat Club, we tied up and headed for the restaurant to pay for our slip. Last fall, our friends, Robert and Linda, on their 42' Nordic Tug told us about their great stay here. ($15.00 per night for a slip and free dinner and drinks courtesy of the boat club members). Well, the slip fee is now $30 a night (still a bargain) and that includes electricity. No one offered to buy us dinner and drinks! What was their secret??
The food (ribs and mac and cheese) was really good and we were able to watch the Belmont Race and see the Triple Crown winner American Pharoah. Predicted storms will keep up here one more night.
