5/31/2014 Lyons, New York

Thanks to my sister-in-law Denise, who is a genealogy expert, we learned that my great-grandparents and other family members are buried in Lyons, NY, just an hour from Brewerton.  On our car ride on I-90 we saw a sign that said texting area, 5 miles.  Apparently the new signage is supposed to keep people from texting while driving.  Not a car was in the pull-off area.

Our first attempt to find my ancestors was unsuccessful.  We drove to the Lyons North Rural Cemetery which had few graves and the stones were almost unreadable.

We retraced our route and went back into Lyons and found the Lyons South Rural Cemetery which is actually in town.  It is quite large and we realized that it would be unlikely that we would find the tombstones.  There was no office with a map of the plots. After walking for over an hour, we came across two areas with family stones.  Among the stones were those of my great-grandparents.
