Cuttyhunk to Mystic, CT to Essex, CT

8/8/12
We left Cuttyhunk early.  After a smoothe ride, we arrived in Mystic at Brewer's Marina where our looper friends keep their boat, the Erika Lin.  Bob and Lynda were the loopers we met on our first day on Lake Michigan after leaving Traverse City.
Ron and I took a dinghy ride up to Mystic Seaport and had drinks with Alice and Brad, on the Nordic Tug, Orca I.
8/9/12
We spent the day walking around Mystic and eating lunch at Mystic Pizza, the location of the movie of the same name.  Dinner was with Bob, Lynda and their friends Ingrid and Dave.

8/10/12
Today was another early departure, this time for Essex, CT, where we have an appointment with the mechanic at the Nordic Tug dealership.  We may need a new seal on the drive shaft.  We arrived at 0945, several hours before severe storms passed through the area.  There were tornado warnings north of here, very unusual for this region.  We hope to leave in the morning for a very long day (70 miles) on Long Island Sound.  It will depend upon the forecast.

  1. Still following, still loving this blog. I was especially surprised at the really "rough" weather you've had, plus, of course, the heat.
You'd think that, once out of the Midwest and the South, you'd catch a break!
When we lived in Massachusetts in the mid-1970s, we didn't have A/C, and we didn't have AC in New York for 11 years because we didn't need it - until 1988, when we broke down and got a couple of window units. That summer, the Midwest roasted, too, and, when we took our trailer out to visit family and friends, Lake Michigan water actually was in the 70-degree range at Ludington, MI, where we camped.
Our children, all born on the East Coast, couldn't imagine a big body of water with waves (and seagulls) not being salty when they swam in Lake Michigan. On the other hand, I (born in Chicago) couldn't imagine swimming in Lake Michigan without freezing to death.
