7/4/14 Hastings to Peterborough

Ken and Ann pulled out about 1/2 hour before us.  This was a gorgeous day on the water winding through lakes and narrow sections which appeared quite rural.  The narrow sections reminded me of parts of the Illinois River where only trees line the sides of the waterway.

We and C.A.R.I.B. arrived at the Peterborough Marina at the same time and were told to stay toward port as we entered.  As we approached the wall on port side, marina staff waived wildly to go to starboard.  Apparently the person on the radio had given us the wrong directions.  We were to stay toward starboard to avoid the large rock 5 feet below the waterline.  OOPS.  We quickly turned and avoided the rock, thank God.

Our slip was on the marina wall which worked out beautifully for Duke.  We were just steps from the park.

The staff told us this is usually the last slip that they give out because people don't like it.  There is no security gate and people are constantly walking by the boat. However we just lock up each time we leave and that works well, plus lots of people stop and visit and pet Duke.

We had dinner in town with Ken and Ann at Riley's which turned out to have great food with extremely large portions.  We are always able to take enough back to the boat for extra meals.
