7/9/15 Elk Rapids to Harbor Springs

Again, we had beautiful travel conditions with low winds and minimal waves.  There were very few boaters that we encountered on our way.  As we approached Harbor Springs, there was a small fleet of sailboats racing out in the bay.  That always creates a challenge for us, since the boats under sail have the right of way.  We navigated around the sailboats and some power boats entering and leaving the harbor.  As we got closer to the marina, there was a mooring field on our starboard side and a number of sailboats filled with young campers on our port side, all of whom seemed to be sailing erratically.  We had no place to go but straight ahead.  A sailboat with three young campers and a teen counselor who had crossed our path and were out of the way, suddenly tacked and headed straight for our bow.  None of them looked...they didn't see us.  Ron put the boat in reverse and saved them from running in to us.  Within minutes after that, I was on the stern getting our lines ready.  Right behind our boat (within 5 feet of our stern), another camp sailboat was trying to be "funny" by chasing us.  I waved them off and they just laughed.  If I could have talked to the person in charge of these teen counselors, I would have given him a piece of my mind!!!

We pulled in to the Harbor Springs Municipal Marina and saw one of the couples from the GLCC Rally (Jan and Charlie Shult) pull in to a slip shortly after we did.  After walking downtown and looking around, we stopped by their boat for a visit.  They visited our boat and then we joined them for dinner at Turkey's Pizza.  We had a great time!
