8/14/15 Seneca Falls to Baldwinsville

We entered lock 3 just after 8am with no wait at all.  Locks 3 and 2 are stair-step locks with steep drops.  Although lock 1 was about 4 miles away, it was ready for us when we arrived.  (Love all of the friendly lockmasters!)  Our goal today was to get to Brewerton, but a storm front with humid air was expected to arrive this afternoon and there is no electricity on the free wall at Brewerton.  So we decided to stop on the free wall at Baldwinsville where power (for our air-conditioners) was available.  There were already several boats tied up.  As we pulled in to an empty space, we discovered that the Firestones' boat was right in front of ours.  Small world!  The wall here is free, but there is a charge of $5.00 for electricity---very reasonable!!

We walked in to town to mail a card, knowing that rain was expected later on.  It was almost 5pm by the time the rain started.

By evening, the wall was packed with boats, some Canadian, some U.S.

had moved to Baldwinsville to help care for her brother who is terminally ill.  She seemed grateful to have someone to talk with.  We had a nice visit.
No TV at this location....the trees caused interference with out Direct TV satellite.

Living Large versus Living Small

Adagio, our 34 foot trawler, is comfortable with computers, shower, freezer, fridge, convection/microwave, TV, internet, small library of books and  room for lots of clothing.

Firestone's 24 foot Cape Dory:

They sold their looper boat and bought this trailerable boat.  Nothing is in storage.  They don't own a home.  Everything they own is on that boat.  So they carry very few items of clothing, have a kindle for reading.  We didn't see what other amenities they had, but the boat is very small.  Their lives are simple, uncomplicated.

Could I do that?  NOT A CHANCE!
